OTMA’s Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship is a professional development programme for experienced care staff who are ready to combine frontline care with leadership responsibilities. It supports care providers in developing confident senior staff who can deliver safe, compassionate, and person-centred support while guiding and mentoring others.
The Lead Adult Care Worker apprenticeship is designed for individuals working in adult care settings who want to take the next step in their career. Learners develop the practical skills, knowledge, and professional behaviours needed to support individuals with complex care and support needs while promoting dignity, independence, wellbeing, and choice.
Lead Adult Care Workers play an important role within care teams, acting as role models for high-quality care and supporting colleagues to work in line with professional standards, safeguarding responsibilities, and person-centred values. They help ensure individuals receive safe, effective, and compassionate support while contributing to positive care environments.
The Lead Adult Care Worker apprenticeship focuses on developing the leadership, communication, and care skills required to support individuals effectively while supervising and guiding others within care environments. Through structured learning, workplace experience, and expert skills coach support, apprentices build confidence in delivering and coordinating high-quality care.
Learners gain knowledge and practical capability in areas such as:
Apprentices also learn how to support colleagues through mentoring, guidance, and professional leadership, helping maintain high standards of care across the organisation.
The Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship is ideal for experienced care staff who are ready to progress into more senior responsibilities within adult social care. It supports those working in residential care, domiciliary care, supported living, day services, and community care settings.

Learners may also specialise in areas such as dementia care, learning disabilities, mental health, end-of-life care, or homecare support.
For employers, the apprenticeship provides a structured pathway to develop capable senior care staff who can support team performance, uphold professional standards, and deliver high-quality care.
Providing excellent care requires more than practical ability. Lead Adult Care Workers must also demonstrate empathy, professionalism, resilience, and the confidence to support others in delivering safe and compassionate care.
This apprenticeship helps learners develop the leadership behaviours needed to guide colleagues, communicate effectively, and contribute positively to workplace culture. Apprentices explore how to manage responsibilities professionally, work collaboratively with external agencies and healthcare professionals, and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
The programme also encourages reflective practice and continuous professional development, helping learners strengthen their confidence and leadership capability over time.
Lead Adult Care Workers are responsible for ensuring individuals receive support that respects their needs, preferences, and independence. The apprenticeship develops a strong understanding of safeguarding, duty of care, confidentiality, and professional boundaries, ensuring apprentices can support vulnerable individuals safely and effectively.
Learners explore how to identify risks, respond to concerns, and promote health and wellbeing through person-centred approaches. They also develop the skills to lead by example, helping create respectful and supportive care environments where individuals feel valued and safe.
On completion, apprentices achieve the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care, a recognised qualification within the care sector. This provides a strong foundation for progression into senior care and leadership roles.
Many learners continue their professional development through higher-level adult care or leadership apprenticeships, supporting long-term career progression within health and social care.
For organisations, investing in the Lead Adult Care Worker apprenticeship helps build skilled, confident care teams capable of delivering high standards of care while supporting the development of others.
The Lead Adult Care Worker Level 3 Apprenticeship has a maximum funding band of £5,000.
